On The Difficulties of Freelancing:on January 24th, 2013 at 2:19 am
Freelancing is really, really tough and can be super fucking scary. With the freedom of being one’s own boss comes the responsibility of being one’s own boss. YOU have to go out there, find new clients, make sure your $$ is right, etc. So its not only creating or doing what you’re good at, its the business and marketing ends as well.
Sometimes work slows or you aren’t pulling in as many jobs as you’d like. Its easy to get scared and start panicing, worrying about bills and making enough to survive.
However, I’ve found that operating from a place of fear only drives business further away. They can smell desperation. Instead, when I get worried or feel a freak out coming on, I try to be grateful for what I DO have. Right now, I’m grateful that I have a roof over my head, a fridge full of food, a warm bed, loving, supportive friends, a functioning car, a dance floor to move on, communities to be apart of, and the ability to read, learn, and grow.
I find that with a positive attitude I’m more open to seeing and finding opportunities that are right in front of me. Keeping that positive attitude helps keep my mind open to new ideas and ways to solve problems. When I get my head right, everything else seems to get right.
As above, so below. As within, so without.
